  1. Blend for Xamarin

Visual Studio integration is a great way to improve cross-platform development productivity using one of the best IDE.

The goal is to imitate the tools (and their usage) on current Windows development (WPF / Windows 8 / Windows Phone).

We have 2 independant tools working together to provide the best productivity management ever : Visual Studio and Blend for the design.

What about Blend Integration with Xamarin ?

      • XAML for Xamarin Forms to be consistent with WPF/UWP XAML so that we have one XAML standard

When Xamarin started Xamarin Forms, I am sure they didn't want to confuse Xaml developers with similar syntax they use in WPF/Silverlight/UWP and started renaming controls like TextBox in WPF/Silverlight/UWP to Entry in Xamarin Forms.

Now that Xamarin is part of Microsoft, we should stick to one standard XAML so that, we can use XAML designers like Blend or similar tools, to drag drop controls, attach behaviours and triggers visually.

Ideally, we design UWP app, and we get iOS and Android apps with no code change.

        • Android designer: Add Split View so that i can edit xml and immediately see result.

Using split view (like VS XAML editor) I can immediately see what is the result of my edit instead of continuously switching between Source/Design tabs.

              • Team Foundation Server integration

I do a lot of work where I build web service clients in VS 2010 so I can run service unit tests using F5 debugging. I end up copy and pasting client files into a shared folder that is visible from my Mac but I would rather just do a check out from TFS.

                  • Make Xamarin Profiler available for Professional subscription

As an individual developer I have a Professional subscription. I build apps for myself as well as for other companies. In order to build good apps I need to profile my apps every now and then. Unfortunately this is not possible anymore because of the changed licenses. I had a Xamarin business license before which suited my needs perfectly. But the professional VS license is now insufficient to do my work because the Xamarin Profiler is missing. The Enterprise license is simply to expensive.

                    • Add code coverage tools and/or integration with code coverage tools to Xamarin Studio

Developing with Xamarin Studio on a Mac gives surprisingly few options for using code-coverage tools that determine the amount of code covered by tests.

The default mono code-coverage tool is not an adequate and robust solution and all other current alternatives (such as Baboon) are similarly not robust enough.

                      • Unity3D Integration

The main idea is to integrate Unity3D in a MonoTouch projects. Unity3D is also using a customized subset of Mono. I know it needs close corporation between two companies but it worth having Unity3D to extract a MonoTouch project or at least somehow run and handle Unity exported packages. I think this is the easiest way of bringing 3D to MonoTouch.

                        • support Xamarin Studio development on Linux

This was suggested and closed over two years ago. Since Xamarin Studio is based on MonoDevelop (which runs on Linux), it seems like it is technically feasible to support Linux. The demand is there, as developers have become disenchanted with Windows 8 as a platform. Android development should not be solely tied to Windows. Help us Xamarin. You're our only hope!

                            • Buy out Mr.Gestures and include it in Xamarin so we can finally enjoy full-fledged gesture support

TapGestureRecognizer...want the coordinates of the tap...sorry.
PanGestureRecognizer...want the coordinates of the last pan point...sorry.
With Mr.Gestures this and so much more is DONE and DONE well! Please add this capability to Xamarin, it'll help spur Xamarin Development :)

Or...don't buy him out but provide first-class API that includes similar capabilities.

I'm not affiliated with Mr.Gestures in anyway, but am a fan of the library, but can't sell any components that I make that leverage his library without forcing my users to buy his license.

                              • Instant run like in android studio

The new android studio v2 has the option to to much faster iterations on an android app. after the app is deployed the developer can change the code and see the change in under 2 seconds. as opposed to about 12 for a full restart on xamarin.

These 10 seconds add up and more importantly they break the development flow. meaning that overall development time is increased greatly by now having this option.

                                • Make AutomationId a BindableProperty in Xamarin.Forms.

I ran into an issue with setting AutomationId in classes derived from ViewCell (e.g. MyViewCell). All the examples use data binding for visible properties like text, but I cannot bind to AutomationId. There might be a workaround, but I think this should be supported out of the box.

                                  • Add intellisense/XML Documentation to all APIs

It's very annoying for my intellisense to be quite useless when it comes to discovering the Xamarin Android APIs. It would be excellent if every API was documented. It seems like only the standard .Net stuff is well documented. The more specific Android APIs are mostly undocumented.

It would be excellent if you could even just carry over the Google provided Java documentation for the APIs that are mostly a straight exposure of the existing APIs

                                    • Xamarin Profiler's huge paywall propagates low quality Xamarin Applications

The Xamarin Profiler tool needs to be more readily available to ALL Xamarin developers, not just Enterprise license holders (which is prohibitively expensive for individuals or small companies). The withholding of such a great tool to only the most expensive licenses will surely propagate low quality, un-optimized applications into the market which could severely affect the Xamarin platform adoption rate for developers. Xamarin Profiler needs to be a free tool ( such as Xcode and Android Studio's profiler tools) or significantly more affordable.

                                      • xamarin forms designer

I think that is neccesary include a desginer like the designer for Android and iOS to xamarin forms, is very diffcult créate interfaces without an interface previewer or drag an drop controls in xamarin forms, for new persons without knowledge in xaml is very difficult and the previewer need the solution compiled

                                        • Xamarin Build / iOS Cloud Build

So we could build our apps on the cloud. Similar to Adobe's PhoneGap Build.

This would allow us to code for iOS from a PC, using VS, with no need for a Mac.
