We’d like your suggestions and ideas to help us continuously improve future releases of the Xamarin Platform, so we’ve partnered with UserVoice, a third-party service, to collect your feedback. Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos for which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft.

This site is for feature suggestions; if you need to file a bug, you can visit our Developer Community website to get started.

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Focus on stability of the classic platforms

    Look at this thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/androiddev/comments/8dfdzx/is_xamarin_still_that_bad/.

Xamarin is already one of the top dreaded technologies according to the Stack Overflow Developer survey: https://insights.stackoverflow.com/survey/2018/#most-loved-dreaded-and-wanted.

A friend here on my university told me, after working on a Xamarin.Forms project for over a year, that no matter what I would do, I should stay away from Xamarin.Forms.

Once I tried to download and run the Xamarin.Forms sample (which used to gift C# t-shirts) and I wasn't able to even do that, even though I kept trying for several hours! Now I understand why you gave a t-shirt for people who managed to…

  2. Automatically restart ADB service when it's not running during build

During a Xamarin Forms/Xamarin Android build, occasionally Visual Studio fails to deploy the app to the device, with an error 'Adb is not running'.

It would be great if Visual Studio can detect the error and automatically restart the ADB service during the build. Right now, it can be restarted manually using the Tools > Android > Restart Adb Server command in Visual Studio

  4. Create binding for popular Android libraries

    Hi,

There is huge amount of Android libraries out there (most of them are open source), as Xamarin developer, I like to use them in my apps, like Java developers, but create binding for them is impossible (at least for me), so create binding for most popular libraries, or make create binding easier for guys like me (I don't familiar with Java)

    Thanks.

  5. Xamarin.Forms Editor placeholder

Hi, this idea would be good for xamarin.forms.
There is still no placeholder functionality for Editor in XF, and I can tell you that many would love it.

    Cheers!
    Max

  7. Make TimePicker public in the TimePickerDialog class

Sometimes, I find myself overriding classes which should not be overridden, just because I need a property which hasn't been made available through the Mono framework.

In this case, in particular, I would love to have access to the TimePicker of the dialog. The old dialog used to have a public getTimePicker() method which, for some reason, is not available.

    Cheers,
    Lucian

  9. Make android build and deploy faster

This suggestion is migrated to Developer Community. Please use below link to view the current status.
    https://developercommunity.visualstudio.com/content/idea/351894/make-android-build-and-deploy-faster.html
Developing for Android with Xamarin is dreadfully slow if you have a reasonably sized project. Currently one of my projects takes over a minute to build and deploy. This is not workable anymore because it takes me out of my flow.

  10. update Android designer and refactoring

Add support for designer to watch changes as soon as we type them in editor like split view. Also add support for refactoring, and provide suggestions like Android Studio does for creating resources like string or colors resources right from layout file. Also support refactoring as soon we type a resource name then it should display matching values like visual studio intellisense works in code editor. Make it better to develop android apps like android studio provides functionality.

  13. Support for at least something

We are Xamarin.Forms developers from Russia. In our country we have a lot of problems, but it is nothing in compromation with YOUR HATEMAKER PRODUCT. So, let's start with a documentation. Two string for a class is not a documentation, really. What about stability? There no stability in Xamarin.Forms. My team waste more than 3 ours every single day to fix conflicts and bugs. For example: unexpectedly died SkiaSharp and Mono or dropped code analizer or died Java compiler or a lot of bullshit happens with Xamarin.Forms. It makes me angry, aggresive and provokes me to hate everything. People shame…

  14. Sqlite Support For Xamarin Shared Project on Android N

We already developed one Android App (Version <7)for one of our customer using Sqlite and Xamarin Shared Project. But with new changes in Android Architecture there might be issues if the customer upgrade their OS to Android 7. I saw some links over internet and want to have Xamarin concurrence on that or wani to know if any updated Sqlite.cs file is available from Xamarin end to use it on Xamarin Shared project.

  15. Instant run like in android studio

The new android studio v2 has the option to to much faster iterations on an android app. after the app is deployed the developer can change the code and see the change in under 2 seconds. as opposed to about 12 for a full restart on xamarin.

These 10 seconds add up and more importantly they break the development flow. meaning that overall development time is increased greatly by now having this option.

  16. New warning on compilation for X version of API that doesn't have the code on runtime and disable component on each version affected.

Warn on compilation when X versión of API doesn't have the code to be executed on runtime for Android. Disable the component with a message to user, message can be like "Don't available on your Android version". All of this automated.

    Resume of work:

    1. On compilation warn all affected versions of API of each piece of code that will has the problema.
    2. Automate the component to be disabled for those API versions, and show message like "Don't available on your Android version"

  17. Xamarin.Forms.Native

Once you are a Xamarin.Forms developer it is hard to go Xamarin.Native as you have to understand how the architecture works of each platform, what is the best practices, the names of the components and so on...

I was thinking that day and wondering how nice it could be if we can write android or/and ios apps natively using our knowledge of Xaml and MVVM and having access to all components that is offered by these platforms including all the properties.
So this is my idea , Xamarin.Forms.Native ... or a better name  .

    More details can be found…

  18. Show error message "image@test.png is not the correct format" if not a-z and 0-9

if android resource contains anything that is not a-z and 0-9 show error message that explains that there is an issue with the resources and not The file "obj\Debug\android\bin\packaged_resources" does not exist.

  19. Two way databinding in Xamarin.Android and Xamarin.iOS

    (This also applies to Xamarin.iOS)

Add two way databinding for Xam Android and iOS. I'm not suggesting using XAML or creating a full MVVM framework, but something that allows you to use the standard INotifyPropertyChanged approach of databinding against the properties of the native controls.

Endorsing and/or improving an existing MVVM solution might also be an option. Creating a Component of it, and otherwise allowing easily to take advantage in an app, for example by scripting initial setup of the integration between the MVVM framework and Xam iOS/Android.

  20. Allow for untrusted certificates on iOS/Android with upcoming HTTPClient changes

I am running the Beta channel which has the updates to HTTPClient to use the native HTTP stacks. Previously we were able to disable client certificate warnings / issues programmatically, and with the new changes to HTTPClient implementation, we will not be able to do so.

This is VERY important to our use case, as our application talks to our hardware devices which don't have up to date or self signed certificates. We need to have secure communication, but also able to ignore the certificate warnings.

    Thanks!
    Jeremy
