Xamarin Platform Suggestions

Announcement: This forum has been migrated to provide you one convenient and responsive system for all feedback. You can now suggest new ideas, browse and vote on existing ideas in the Visual Studio Developer Community. To learn more about the migration to Visual Studio Developer Community please check out the release blog post.

We’d like your suggestions and ideas to help us continuously improve future releases of the Xamarin Platform, so we’ve partnered with UserVoice, a third-party service, to collect your feedback. Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos for which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft.

This site is for feature suggestions; if you need to file a bug, you can visit our Developer Community website to get started.

Note: your use of the portal and your submission is subject to the UserVoice Terms of Service & Privacy Policy and license terms.

We look forward to hearing from you!
- The Xamarin Platform Team

I suggest you ...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can support and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can support it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  10. Add a documentation page that succinctly but precisely defines various kinds of Xamarin Platform releases

    Each Xamarin Platform release has a "reason for release" and a "publication channel." It could be helpful to document the criteria that define each pairing of these two dimensions.

    The page could be expanded bit-by-bit. The first version of this page could just discuss the "Feature release + Stable" pairs. I think those are the ones that the largest number of users would be interested in.

    - Feature release for new Xamarin features + Stable
    - Feature release for compatibility with new versions iOS and Android + Stable

    Other pairs could then be added to the page gradually over time.

  11. Improve University subscriptions by adding more technical content, focus less on remedial C#

    So much of the University subscription is devoted to remedial C# topics and basics.

    Additional advanced features should be focused on...

  12. Improve Introduction to Web Services ServiceStack client example code

    Hi Team!

    On the "Introduction to Web Services" documentation page, there is an example of using the ServiceStack JsonServiceClient (which is awesome), but the code snippet provided is not correct. Could this be updated to something that reflects the ServiceStack Wiki?

    Current snippet is:
    client.GetAsync<CustomersResponse>("",
    (response) => {
    foreach(var c in response.Customers) {
    Console.WriteLine(c.CompanyName);
    }
    },
    (response, ex) => {
    Console.WriteLine(ex.Message);
    });

    Could be updated to:

    client.GetAsync<CustomersResponse>("/customers")
    .Success(response => {
    foreach (var c in response.Customers)
    {
    Console.WriteLine(c.CompanyName);
    }
    })
    .Error(exception =>
    {
    Console.WriteLine(exception.Message);
    });

  14. Switch control in Xamarin.Forms should have Command property

    To get cleaner code Switch control should have Command property. This will give us possibility move source from code-behind to viewmodel. Correct me if there is better solution for this problem.

  16. enhance the documentation on binding projects.

    Currently the recipe on Binding projects introduces a very specific case, but does not go into a generalization of how one might mitigate errors they are seeing.

  17. Navigate to definition

    decompile dlls and show cs code and il code of decompiled file(for it you can use open-source program ILSpy) and navigte to definition of class or function or property for every language (i.e css, javascrip, html, c#, etc.) in ctrl+mouseClick even if it is on decompiled code.

    and to have references to all usages of function or class which will visible on defenition and you can navigate from that point to that usage.

    And it is important to have color picker, which can pick color even from your desctop, and to have small squares before every color with white border,…

  18. Preview within Xamarin Studio for readme's written using Github-flavored markdown (readme.md)

    When dealing with Github-flavored markdown readme's, being able to preview within Xamarin Studio before pushing would be immensely useful.

  19. Each Project needs to be able to be associated with a different Developer profile

    This is a Xamarin Studio suggestion:
    If each project could be associated with a different Developer profile it would help those of us who are contractors manage the plethora of profiles we have to keep track of for each client. The global Developer profile setting is of little use to us.
